Hello and welcome. This is The Patkey Show where we answer all your questions and also tell about tips and tricks on qualifying patent agent examination conducted by the government of India. And today’s three questions are:
Q1. what is the renewal fee for the patent agent registration.
Q2. Is the renewal fee has to be paid every year or once two years or house it.
Q3. If we discontinue paying the renewal fee for one or two years, What happens?

All right, awesome. Great question. So let’s start that you have qualified for the patient agent examination. So for the first registration, you have to pay Rs. 3200. That is a one-time fee, Rs. 3,200. And after that, every year that is the first year, the second year, the third year you have to pay Rs.800 and all the payments are done online using form no. 22. So every year the fee needs to be paid and 3200 is the first time registration fee for entry of your details into the register of paid an agent.

And what happens after that and after that?

Let’s say you missed, let’s say third, four, the fifth year you have missed. You were not practicing as a patent agent. So you have to file a petition. That’s why you missed it. Maybe you are taking a break from your career. So you have to write a petition letter and give a petition fee of Rs. 1600 and then your name will be restored. And how many years that let’s say you missed three years. So 800 into three Rs. 2400 needs to be paid and your name will be re-entered. You don’t have to give patent agent examination again if you have qualified, once you are a patent agent and just you have to pay the renewal fees. And why these are fees. Generally, people ask because they maintain your records, they maintain your name, email address, phone number, area of service. All the details are there in the electronic register which is available on Ipindia.nic website.
