The Unit for Research and Development of Information Products (UDRIP) has prepared a database of patents related to agro bioresouces of India. UDRIP has also created database of 500 medicinal plants on which around 12000 patents has been granted worldwide. The information will be a part of Indian Bioresources Information Network (IBIN) portal, a national databse infrastructure offering information on diverse aspects of bio-resources. Earlier India has developed Traditional Knowledge Database.
These databases are very important to protect traditional knowledgeof India. This database will help policy makers to take appropriate steps to make necessary steps to prevent grant of patents based on trdaitional knowledge of India.
