IP system adapts technology trends as depicted in the UK-China symposium held in September. Attendees of 2017 UK-China symposium heard how the intellectual property system is adapting to technology trends such as AI and big data.
The ‘Future proofing the IP system’ event, which attracted over 200 delegates was co-hosted by UK’s Intellectual Property Office and China’s State Intellectual Property Office(SIPO). Delegates also heard about the latest policy and practice innovation in Patent Trademark field, as well as challenges for online and offline IP enforcement.
Practical advice was shared for innovative and created business, including in design-intensive industries. Keynote speaker, Lord prior, UK business minister and Vice commissioner Gan Shaoning of SIPO highlighted the increased co-operation and work sharing between UK and China on IP.
Lord Prior had said that the fourth industrial revolution will be based above all on new ideas and new technology this means that the need for a robust IP regime has never been stronger or more necessary.”
He added further that this symposium presents a key opportunity for UK industry to engage with Chinese policymakers to discuss a wide range of IP issues, ensuring we deliver an IP system that protects innovation and creativity that can help boost economic growth and trade for both countries.
