About PTAB
The Patent Trail and appeal board (PTAB) conduct trails, including inter prates, post-granted covered business method patent reviews and derivation proceeding, hears appeals from adverse examiner decisions in patent applications and reexamination processing and render decisions in interferences.
Background
On October 20–21, 2017, the Chicago-Kent’s Center for Empirical Studies of Intellectual Property (CESIP) will host a conference on “The Power of PTAB: The New Authority in Patent Law. The conference includes a public session on Friday, 20 October, which will bring together academics, physicians and policy makers to discuss issues related to the extended role of PATAB.
The conference continues on Saturday, October 21 with half-day scholars’ round table, in which PTAB issues are being discussed.
Issues
We have many prominent scholars working on issues related to PTAB which have already confirmed as speakers and want to fill some of the remaining places through this open call for paper proposals. The deadline is Friday, July 21, 2017. We welcome the proposals of PTAB-related papers on any topic, use any method, and any length. Empirical projects are especially encouraged; Researchers can apply to CESIP for a grant of $ 500- $ 1000 (details of the surrender after the time limit). Letters will be published in the Chicago-Kent Journal of Intellectual Property Participants will be selected based on the availability of space by the Chicago-Kent IP faculty; Fit with the theme of the conference; and contribute to a conference which is diverse with all the measures. Chicago-Kent will cover two nightly night parties for invited participants and provide food during the conference. Participants are responsible for arranging their trip.

To present a proposal for the conference, please send summaries under 500 words of the proposed topic (and methodology, if relevant) by July 21, 2017.
