The cool new way to stay connected with the rest of the world had first arrived in 2010. One of the first means of staying connected was via the telegram and then the radio, telephone and so on. Then the world moved onto the internet with the advance of time. Now the world is embedded with the internet and without it the world will be destabilized today.

Today, everything is connected wireless and basically everything has become accessible that way. You can access the internet from your smartphone even from an isolated region or a deserted place. The world has never been so interconnected.

Wi-Fi is one such mode of staying connected and it functions via radio bands. Wi-Fi is a wireless networking technology that is used everywhere from offices to homes. It is transmitted via a wireless access point.

Li-Fi :

Li-Fi is the cool new way to stay connected. It is similar to the Wi-Fi but with a difference. The difference is that it uses LED technology as the wireless access point.

Suppose if you are using a Cisco Wireless router at home for your Wi-Fi network, you can simply put it aside and fix a bulb and stay connected.

How does it work?

Li-Fi transmits signals via visible light whereas Wi-Fi uses the radio waves. The data is transmitted via the visible light spectrum. For a person to have Li-Fi connectivity he just needs to install a bulb at his place and needs to have the receiver on his device. If the receiver is not in-built in your device you can connect it via a USB port, similar to a receiver of a wireless mouse.

 Faster Speeds :

The transmission speeds are way over the top when compared to the current bandwidth speeds of Wi-Fi. The new LED technology can deliver upto 50-100Mbps to a single use from a divided source whereas Wi-Fi will give you around 5-10 Mbps for a single use from a divided source. In the case of Li-Fi the bandwidth has been increased due to which multiple users can enjoy high speeds on a divided source. This current technology is being worked upon at the Oregon State University.
