Facebook is preparing for its May IPO and has spent money billion so far in buying patents from IBM, Instagram and now Microsoft.
Microsoft Corporation and Facebook announced an agreement under which Facebook has agreed to purchase patents which Microsoft has recently bought for AOL for $550 million in cash. As per agreement, Facebook will obtain ownership of 650 AOL patents and patent applications, plus a license to AOL patents.
Facebook is preparing for circling his target Yahoo, after yahoo filed patent law suit against Facebook.
In 2010, it acquired patents from Hewlett Packard that covers an “apparatus and method for communication between multiple browsers.” As per cent news, Facebook may now go after Sony patents soon because Sony’s patents are most cited patents in Yahoo portfolio. Also Facebook can take advantage of Sony’s weak financial position.
