Patent Agent Training Program helps you prepare for the Patent Agent Examination conducted by Patent Office, Government of India. This program provides the facility to students/ IP Professionals to prepare through classroom / distance learning mediums.

Eligibility Criteria for Joining the Preparation Course and Appearing For the Patent Agent Examination

  1. He is a citizen of India;
  2. He has completed the age of 21 years
  3. He has obtained a [degree in science, engineering or technology from any university established under law for the time being the force] in the territory of India or possesses such other equivalent qualifications as the Central Government may specify in this behalf, and, in addition. All science and technology graduates (B. Sc, M.Sc, B.Tech, M.tech etc.) are eligible to give the exam.

Pattern of Examination and Questions asked in Patent Agent Examination

Question paper pattern - Patent Agent Examination

  • Paper I will have 40 objective type questions of one mark each and descriptive type questions of 60 marks.
  • Paper II will have a set of two questions (different sets for science and engineering) on drafting of 30 marks each consisting of:
    • Drafting of specification from given claims and background.
    • Drafting of claims from given specification and the rest will be descriptive/interpretative type questions of 40 marks.
  • Viva-voce examination will be based only on domain knowledge.

This is a professional qualification and a lifelong qualification. The passing score is a minimum of 50% in each and overall 60%.

Last year, exam was notified on 1st February and was conducted on 4 May. This year also the notification is expected in first week of Feb and exact date of the exam will be mentioned in the same

Classroom Teaching Method

This program is available in classroom mode as regular classroom, crash course and express mode for 8 week, 4 week and 6 days respectively. Course content is as follows-

Preparation for Paper 1

This includes detailed study of Patent Act 1970. It will cover study of  all sections and rules of the act. Special tips will be provided to learn and understand the section. Understanding of law is made easy using illustrations and worksheets so that science students can interpret it correctly.

Preparation for Paper 2

This includes preparation for case studies. Participants will be taught through worksheets to practice and write answers to case studies type questions. Topic wise case studies will be discussed in the classroom with our experts.

Detailed training of patent drafting will be provided. This includes specification drafting and claim drafting.Progarm will focus on claim construction techniques. Patents will be drafted from various industries - mechanical, chemistry, electronics, biotechnology, general science etc.

Preparation for Viva Voce
Viva Voce is very important in patent agent exam where participants are asked questions from their technical background. We conduct expert sessions to practice viva voce questions from various technical background. 

Distance Learning Method

In this program we send the participants the printed study material. Online teacher interaction is provided through cloud campus. Two contact classes will be provided to participants at our Delhi Centre.

IIPTA Cloud Campus

IIPTA give every student access to it Cloud Campus facility. You can access the IIPTA Cloud Campus by visiting the url: http://cloudcampus.iipta.com. IIPTA Cloud Campus is an online platform where students can interact which the same teacher who are teaching in the Patent Agent Examination preparation classroom program at IIPTA, Delhi Centre. Students can ask as many questions as they what on the cloud campus and they are be answered by the faculty on the priority basis.

Registration Process:

Following is the admission procedure for any and all the courses at Indian Institute of Patent and Trademark Attorney

Step #1: Creation of User ID at IIPTA.com portal and completion of the form attached.

Step #2: Filling the form and field of the profile by the student with the true and correct information + reading, understanding and accepting all the terms and conditions laid by IIPTA on the universal terms and conditions page for joining any course at IIPTA.

Step #3: Conformation by email or phone from the student to join the course.

Step #4: Payment of the course fee by the student via DD, Cash or Bank Transfer.

Step #5: Once the payment is done in full, study material will be handed over to the student.

Note: Minimum registration fee is Rs.15,000/- only in case of all courses except for Patent Agent Examination Preparation - Distance Learning, in which complete fee has to be deposited in one go only. The remaining fee for all the other programs has to be deposited on or before the starting date of the enrolled batch. Delay in payment of fee once the batch has started will result in Rs.500/ day late fee fine.
