Novartis last shot to protect its anti cancer drug "Glivec"

In 2006 Novartis had sued Indian Government for not granting patent to its anti cancer drug Imatinib selling under brand name " Glivec". It also challenged the constitutional validity of section 3 d of Indian Patent Act 1970 which says new forms including esters, ethers, acids or other derivatives of known substance are not patentable in India unless there is increase in efficacy.

IPAB rejects Yahoo paidsearch technology patent

As reported by The Economic Times, Intellectual Property Appellate Board in Chennai has rejected a patent filed for a paidsearch technology by Overture Services Inc, a unit of  Yahoo. As per technology,, search lists is based on bid made by advertiser. For exaample, comapny A comes top in a search after bidding at 3 cents but if comapny B pays more money that will rise in listing.

End of lipitor patent : Strategy of Pfizer to earn money with expired patent

Patent  of the one of the most blockbuster drug in the market - LIPITOR has expired. Patent was held by Pfizer which held the market exclusivity and earned great revenues at an average of $ 11 billion  with last year sales staggering at $ 13 billion. Lipitor almost amounted for one sixth of the revenue of Pfizer. Though many companies stop marketing their products at patent expiry but Pfizer is trying best to keep up his market against all generic rivals - Ranbaxy and Watson Pharmaceuticals.
