IPAB rejects Yahoo paidsearch technology patent

As reported by The Economic Times, Intellectual Property Appellate Board in Chennai has rejected a patent filed for a paidsearch technology by Overture Services Inc, a unit of  Yahoo. As per technology,, search lists is based on bid made by advertiser. For exaample, comapny A comes top in a search after bidding at 3 cents but if comapny B pays more money that will rise in listing.

IPAB rejected the patent as being business method patent. As per section3 business methods patents are not patentable in India.Feroz Ali Khader, counsel for Yahoo has argued that similar patents have been granted to Google. But Tribunal rejected this line of arugument. 

Opposition was filed by Rediff.
